Website maintenance is all about keeping your website up-to-date, safe, and running at peak performance. It usually involves maintaining backups for your website, security checks, managing domain and hosting, and can extend to content creation, website optimisation, performance management and marketing strategy.

Think of your website as a racing car…

and think of website maintenance as the pit crew.

A ‘pit crew’ that keeps everything safe, running smoothly, and keeping performance at the optimum level. 

Maintaining a website helps:

– Avoid security breaches that can result in you losing you website files, irreversible damage to your website, and data breaches of you and/or your users.

– Protect your rankings. Search engines don’t like websites that aren’t updated. They will drop poorly maintained websites from their rankings – no rankings means no traffic!

– Ensure it doesn’t crash or refuse to load. An unmaintained website can be no better than having no website.

– Make sure you don’t miss out on a huge competitive advantage. While others fall asleep at the wheel, you can be keeping your website current, up-to-date and refreshed with new content. Doing this will put you in front of many other businesses and give you a BIG advantage.

This is one of those tricky questions to answer. It really does depend on the level of maintenance that you are looking for.

It can be as simple as a couple of hours a week to a full time job. All of this depends on the size of the website, the traffic numbers and the level of care.

You can do this yourself if you have the time, patience, know-how, and right software setup. It’s doable for sure, I did this for my first business I owned (before I became a digital marketing wiz), and it’s definitely achievable. 

However, it is time consuming! It is also something that requires a specific knowledge set and software tools to achieve.

What we find, is that for most people, they don’t have the time or resources to learn these skills, and most don’t want to go through the likely site crashes and other mistakes along the way to learn how to manage their site – fair enough too. 

It would be a bit like trying to service your own car.  Some people have the required tools and knowledge to do this, but for most of us, we get a mechanic to service it to make sure it is done right. 

We recommend that for most people, getting the pros to look after your website is the best way to go. We think protecting your asset is worth it.
